Youngstown State head baseball coach Steve Gillispie accepted a resolution commending his team for winning the 2014 Horizon League Baseball Tournament as well as earning a victory in the NCAA Tournament on Wednesday at the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus.
Gillispie was presented with the framed resolution at the start of the final session of the 130th General Assembly. The resolution was written and presented by Senator Joe Schiavoni of District 33, which includes Mahoning and Columbiana Counties.
"I want to thank Senator Schiavoni, his staff, and all of the senators for celebrating the accomplishments of our players and coaches at today's session," Gillispie said. "It was a tremendous honor to stand and be recognized in front of our state's leaders."
The Penguins won the Horizon League Tournament Title as the No. 6 seed by beating No. 1Wright State twice, No. 3 Valparaiso and No. 4 Milwaukee. Youngstown State advanced to the Bloomington Regional and earned the school's first victory in the NCAA Tournament by beating Indiana State on Saturday.
