Web Charles from Reno, Nevada, has signed a National Letter of Intent during the regular signing period to join the Youngstown State baseball program, YSU head coach Steve Gillispie announced.
Charles is a 6-foot-3, 185-pound infielder who is currently a senior at Bishop Manogue High School.
“We are very excited about Web's athleticism and physical projection,” Gillispie said. “He's been a three sport standout for Bishop Manogue High School, and we believe his best days are ahead of him in baseball. He shows great versatility being able to play infield as well as the outfield. Even better are his track record in the classroom and his character and makeup.”
Through 24 games as a senior, Charles is batting .358 with 28 runs scored, 20 RBIs, nine doubles and six steals. The shortstop has helped the team to a 20-5 overall start and a 13-1 mark in league play. MaxPreps has the team ranked as the 10th-best in the state.
Charles also played basketball and football, and he was second-team all-league in football as a punter.
Charles is the eighth student-athlete who has signed an NLI to play baseball at Youngstown State in 2015-16. He joins high school seniors Kyle Benyo, Evan Cheng, Collin Floyd, Chris Sparks and Blake Zeller and junior college transfers Javier Alvarez and Tyler Sutherland.
