Youngstown State outfielder Kyle Benyo has been named to the 2016 Horizon League All-Freshman Team, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
Benyo, an Austintown native and a graduate of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., batted .283 against conference opponents in his first season at Youngstown State. The freshman outfielder had four doubles and a triple in league play, and his .383 slugging percentage against conference opponents ranked second on the team. For the year he batted .189 with 13 RBIs and one home run in 37 games, 30 of which he started.
This is the third season that the Horizon League has honored an All-Freshman Team, and Benyo is the third Penguin to earn a spot. Benyo's teammates, Alex Larivee and Kevin Yarabinec, were selections in 2014.
