The Youngstown State baseball team will play four games at Eastwood Field this week to conclude a nine-game home stand and its April schedule. The Penguins will host Bowling Green on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., and they'll welcome Canisius for a three-game non-conference series over the weekend. Game one versus the Golden Griffins will be at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, and the teams are also scheduled to play on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Penguins were last in action on Saturday when they split a Horizon League doubleheader against Oakland at Eastwood Field. Pitching dominated the day as Joe King's complete game led the Penguins to a 7-2 victory in the opener, and Oakland didn't allow a YSU hit until the eighth inning in a 9-1 victory in game two. The doubleheader split allowed Youngstown State to climb within a half game of Northern Kentucky in the Horizon League standings for the final spot in next month's conference tournament.

Gerrad Rohan hit .385 in YSU's six games last week to reclaim the team's top batting average at .278, and Andrew Kendrick is close behind at .274. Rohan also had seven RBIs last week to get within Kendrick's team lead of 17. Alex Larivee, who batted leadoff for the first time this season last week, jumped into the runs lead with 18.

Junior left-hander Michael Semonsen will get a Wednesday start for the second straight week when he takes the mound against Bowling Green. Semonsen allowed six unearned runs against Pittsburgh last week in what was his first start in nearly a month. Coming off the longest outing of his career, freshman lefty Collin Floyd will start the opener on Friday against Canisius. He'll be followed by King and junior right-hander Jeremy Quinlan on the weekend.
