Youngstown State junior outfielder Alex Larivee has been named Preseason Second-Team All-Horizon League by College Sports Madness, the website announced Monday evening.
Larivee, a native of Sacramento, Calif., is the Penguins' top returning hitter in 2016. He batted .325 last year and led the team with a .421 on-base percentage and a .490 slugging percentage. He ranked eighth in the Horizon League in slugging percentage, OPS and stolen bases. Larivee was even better in conference games as he batted .333 and slugged .521. Larivee was a Second-Team All-Horizon League honoree as well as an All-Freshman Team member in 2014.
Wright State catcher Sean Murphy was picked as the Preseason Player of the Year, and UIC's Jake Dahlberg was chosen as the Preseason Pitcher of the Year. Zane Collins from Wright State is the Preseason Freshman of the Year by CSM.
Larivee will be one of just four returning starters in the field for the Penguins in 2016. Youngstown State begins its official practice schedule on Friday, and the Penguins' season opener will be three weeks from then at Western Kentucky on Feb. 19.
