Valparaiso senior Dalton Lundeen pitched a four-hit shutout in the final home start of his career to send the Crusaders to a 4-0 victory over the Youngstown State baseball team on Thursday at Emory G. Bauer Field.
Trey Bridis went 2-for-3 to lead the Penguins offensively, and Alex Larivee and Andrew Kendrick added singles. Lundeen did not walk or hit a batter, and he struck out just one.
James Stea and Chase Dawson both had a pair of hits for Valpo, which was limited to six hits.
The Crusaders scored an unearned run in the second on Jeff Edwards’ two-out single, and Valpo went up 3-0 in the third on a ground out and a sacrifice fly. The only other run in the game came in the seventh when Stea singled, stole second and third and took home on a throwing error.
Jeremy Quinlan surrendered two earned runs on five hits and five walks over six innings, and Joel Hake allowed the unearned run in the seventh.
The Penguins and Crusaders will continue their three-game series on Friday at 2 p.m. Eastern.
