Former Youngstown State outfielder Trey Bridis has signed a contract to play with the Eastside Diamond Hoppers of the United Shore Professional Baseball League (USPBL), an independent league located in Michigan. Bridis went 1-for-2 with an RBI single, three walks and two runs scored in his debut against the Utica Unicorns on June 29.
Bridis finished his YSU career with a stellar senior season and was named First-Team All-Horizon League. On May 14, Bridis was named a National Player of the Week by Collegiate Baseball and the Horizon League Co-Batter of the Week after a week in which he batted .500 and hit four home runs. He finished the season ranked in the top 10 of the Horizon League in eight different offensive categories.
Bridis posted team and career highs with 42 walks and 13 home runs in 2018. Each of those totals ranked second in the league and as the second most in a single season in school history. Bridis is the only Penguin to ever record 10-plus homers and 40-plus walks in the same season. He finished his career tied for fifth in program history with 22 career home runs and tied for eighth with 79 career walks.
