The Youngstown State Department of Intercollegiate Athletics recently recognized the 2017-18 YSU baseball team for its outstanding work in the community.

The baseball team was named as YSU's recipient of the Horizon League Team Community Outreach Award at the Scholar Athlete Banquet which was held last week.

The team has accumulated over 400 community service/outreach hours over the past academic year. Players and coaches have volunteered at a number of events and with various organizations including:

  • Youngstown CityScape
  • Panerathon
  • Youngtown Peace Race
  • Mahoning Valley Scrappers Trick-or-Treat
  • Canfield Fair
  • Siffrin Group of Austintown
  • The Salvation Army
  • Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation (YNDC)

This marks the first time the baseball program has earned the honor. The softball team had won the award each of the previous six years and seven of the last eight. This season also marks the first time a male sport has won the award since 2007-08.
