Former Youngstown State third baseman Drew Dosch will represent the Norfolk Tides of the International League in the 31st annual Triple-A All-Star Game at Huntington Park in Columbus, Ohio, on Wednesday. Dosch has spent the better part of the last two seasons with the Tides, the Triple-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, and has put himself in position for a possible Major League call-up.
The former Penguin is batting .293 and slugging .455 with five home runs, 31 RBIs and a team-high 19 doubles this season. Dosch, who was selected by the Orioles in the seventh round of 2013 MLB Draft, hit .265 with eight home runs and a team-best 36 doubles in 120 games with the Tides in 2017. This will be Dosch's third all-star game as a minor leaguer; he made the South Atlantic League mid-season All-Star team in 2014, and the Carolina League team in 2015.
Dosch was a First-Team All-Horizon League selection at third base for YSU in 2012 and 2013. He batted .353 as a sophomore in 2012 and .338 as a junior in 2013. The Canal Winchester, Ohio, product was tabbed the top professional prospect in the Horizon League by Baseball America and voted the Horizon League Preseason Player of the Year prior to the 2013 campaign.
The Triple-A All-Star Game will feature players from the International League (IL) facing off against players from the Pacific Coast League (PCL). The game will take place on Wednesday at Huntington Park in Columbus with gates opening at 5 p.m. and introductions beginning at 6:30 p.m. The game will also be broadcast live on the MLB Network.
