Youngstown State pitcher Andrew Shivak has been named as one of the top freshmen in the Horizon League by Perfect Game USA, one of the top scouting services the country.
Shivak is one of 23 newcomers and 13 freshmen coming into the program who are expected contribute early for the Penguins. The right-hander is a native of Naples, Fla. and was a standout at Gulf Coast High School. He was rated a top 500 player in the country by Perfect Game with a 1.75 ERA in 16 innings of work during his junior season. This past summer he came on strong with a 1.00 ERA while striking out a batter an inning vs elite level talent at Gulf Coast.
Head Coach Dan Bertolini on Shivak: "Andrew has an electric arm with a fastball that has reached 91 miles per hour. He played for one of the best travel teams in the country in the Orlando Scorpions. He has great experience playing at a high level that will allow him to be an early contributor. We are so excited for him to be a Penguin."
