YSU Baseball will hold its annual Scout Day Sept. 18

The Youngstown State baseball team will hold its annual Scout Day on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Eastwood Field in Niles with the event beginning at 3 p.m.

Scout Day allows the YSU baseball program to continue building strong relationships with professional scouts in the area while showcasing new and returning players. The Penguins had a number of players who performed well over the summer in various collegiate summer leagues.

Over the past 10 seasons, YSU has had five different players selected in the MLB Draft. Those draftees include pitcher Phil Klein, who was drafted in 2011 and went on to make appearances for the Texas Rangers and Philadelphia Phillies from 2014-2016.

Former Penguin Drew Dosch was drafted in 2013 and spent time playing for the Norfolk Tides, the AAA affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, over the last two seasons. Dosch represented the Tides last summer in the 31st annual Triple-A All-Star Game at Huntington Park in Columbus.

YSU Draft Selections Since 2010:

  • 2015 - Frank Califano (Chicago White Sox - Round 19)
  • 2013 - Drew Dosch (Baltimore Orioles - Round 7)
  • 2011 - Phil Klein (Texas Rangers - Round 30)
  • 2010 - Jacke Healey (Houston Astros - Round 27)
  • 2010 - Eric Marzec (Milwaukee Brewers - Round 30)
