Penguins Put on Full Pads as Fall Camp Revs Up

The Youngstown State football team put on full pads for the first time this fall camp on Wednesday afternoon at Stambaugh Stadium. YSU went with team sessions first with some members having to leave practice early because of classes.

The offensive and defensive lines had some one-on-one drills to get the practice going. After warming up, Head Coach Eric Wolford had the offense and defense square off for more than 30 minutes. The Penguins went over first, second and third-down plays as well as red-zone situations. It was the first time this fall that the Guins spent a good amount of time on red-zone situations.

YSU then went into group work with 7-on-7 and 9-on-7 drills while lines worked on pass protections. Before moving to individual work, the Penguins worked on punt coverage and punt returns.

The Penguins will be in full pads on Thursday and Friday before holding their first fall scrimmage of the fall on Saturday. The scrimmage is set to start at 9:40 a.m.

YSU opens the season on Friday, Sept. 2 at Michigan State. The contest will be televised on the Big Ten Network and carried on 570 WKBN AM.

Season and Individual Game Tickets for the 2011 season are now on sale through the YSU Athletic Ticket Office. For ticket information contact the YSU Athletic Ticket Office at (330) 941-1978.
