Youngstown State junior quarterback Kurt Hess was named the Missouri Valley Football Conference's Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Penguins 27-6 victory in the season finale over Indiana State yesterday at Stambaugh Stadium.
Hess, who won the award following YSU's victory over UNI earlier this season, completed 20-of-28 passes for 248 yards and two touchdowns against the nationally-ranked Sycamores. He had an exceptional second half completing 11-of-12 passes for 175 yards and two scores as the Penguins outscored the Sycamores 21-3. With his 30-yard scoring toss to Andrew Williams in the third quarter he set the school record for career touchdown passes. He finished the season with 53 touchdown passes in his career.
The 27 points scored by the Penguins against the Sycamores was the most allowed by Indiana State this season.
DE Cole Jirik of North Dakota State was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Week, CB/RS Marcus Williams of North Dakota State was named the Special Teams Player of the Week and QB Sawyer Kollmorgen of UNI was selected as the Newcomer of the Week.
