The Youngstown State football team returns to Stambaugh Stadium for the first time in nearly a month this Saturday when the Penguins take on Southern Illinois. Kickoff is slated for 4:05 p.m. Tickets are available by calling (330) 941-1978.
Plenty of activities will be part for the day as the 15th-ranked Penguins take on the Salukis, winners of four of their last five games.
Highlighting the day will be the induction of seven former Penguins. Being enshrined into the Athletics Hall of Fame on Saturday are Elliott Giles (football), Brandi Goettsch (diving), P.J. Mays (football), Chris Notareschi (softball), Becky Rudzik (track and field/cross country), Ed Strauss (contributor), Herb Williams (football). The luncheon will begin at noon with the ceremony slated to start at 1 p.m.
The tailgate lots (M-24 and M-7) are set to open at 10 a.m.
In the M-7 Tailgate Lot, the band, Guys Without Ties, will begin at 1 p.m. On the west side of Stambaugh Stadium is the annual Car Coach Display. Fans are invited to check out vehicles of area car dealers.
The YSU football team will make its tailgate walk at approximately 1:40 p.m. through the M-24 Lot. Fans are encouraged to lineup and greet the team as it heads towards the stadium. This year members of the YSU Marching Pride will join the walk up to Stambaugh Stadium.
At 3 p.m., the YSU Marching Pride will be conducting its Ice Breakers event on the grass near the Andrews Wellness and Recreation Center to get fans in full gameday mode.
Fans in attendance will receive a lanyard courtesy of 21 WFMJ, Covelli Enterprises and Framers National Bank.
The "Penguin Power Band" and two Coaches vs. Cancer bands are $10 (for all three), with proceeds benefiting the YSU Men's Basketball Team and Coaches vs. Cancer. The "Y" Magnets are 1 for $3 or 2 for $5, with proceeds benefiting the YSU Women's Golf Team.
As always, YSU students are admitted free with a valid student ID. Tickets on gameday are $18 for reserved and $14 for general admission.
