The Youngstown State football team practiced in the WATTS on Monday afternoon. YSU had planned to practice outdoors but threatening weather hit at the start of the workout. The change of scenery was a welcomed change for everyone.
It was just the second indoor practice of the spring and first time the team went inside in full pads. The Penguins worked hard in the two-plus hour practice spending time of individual drills and a fair-amount of team situations.
Following the workout, Coach Eric Wolford and quarterback Kurt Hess had some with the media discussing pregame tailgating for Friday night. The football program will hold a contest prior to Friday night's spring game looking for the best tailgate food. The winner receives gift cards to local restaurants and two sideline passes to the season opener at Pittsburgh.
Hess said whatever dishes his mother made would be the best tailgate far no matter what. He did say she will not take part in the contest, but will do her best to have a fun and tasty tailgate.
Coach Wolford said he will be down in the tailgate lot prior to the game to see the YSU faithful and that he would be more than happy to sample some of the tailgate entries before the judging begins.
Tailgate lots will open at 5 p.m. and kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. As of Monday night, the forecast for Friday looks outstanding. A high in the mid 60's is expected for the 40th Annual Red-White Spring Game at Stambaugh Stadium.
Wolford said the No. 1 offense and No. 2 defense will be on one side of the ball while the No. 1 defense and No. 2 defense will be on the other. The contest will feature four quarters. The first two will be running clock with the second half featuring a continuous clock.

YSU will hold a tune-up practice on Wednesday in preparation for the Spring Game.
