The Youngstown State football team opens spring drills on Wednesday, March 21 at Stambaugh Stadium. The Penguins will hold 15 practices, highlighted by scrimmages on March 31 and April 7 with the 40th annual Red-White Spring Game set for Friday, April 13.

Entering the first workout of the spring, YSU returns 45 letterwinners from last year's squad. Also 14 redshirts will be looking to show what they can do this spring. The Penguins have 15 seniors on the roster as practice begins. In 2011, the Guins played a total 21 true, redshirt and transfer freshmen.
