Youngstown State senior punter/placekicker Joey Cejudo was named the Missouri Valley Football Conference player of the week on Sunday for his performance in the season-opener at Illinois.
Cejudo made three field goals and averaged 38.3 yards on seven punts against Illinois. He made kicks of 29, 33 and 36 in the contest for the Penguins' first three-FG game since 2010 vs. North Dakota State. He had a long punt of 47 yards and placed two inside the opponents 20.
Also earned a bit a fame on social networks when a punt of his hit the back of a YSU blocker on a punt attempt. A hashtag referencing the play was trending throughout social media channels and ESPN showed the play, which overshadowed an outstanding performance. He also had two touchbacks on four kickoffs and had an assisted tackle on kickoff return.
This week's Missouri Valley Football Conference Players of the Week were RB John Crockett of North Dakota State; DE Kyle Emanuel of North Dakota State; Cejudo and DE Colby Isbell of Missouri State.
