Youngstown State sophomore PK Zak Kennedy was named the Missouri Valley Football Conference's Special Teams Player of the Week, the league announced on Sunday.
Kennedy made field goals of 26, 28 and 24 yards in the Penguins' 30-20 win yesterday against South Dakota. It was the fourth time in his career that he made three field goals in a contest. He also added three extra points and had four touchbacks on six kickoffs.
In his YSU career, Kennedy has made 24-of-29 field-goal attempts and is 5-of-6 this season with the lone miss coming from 50 yards on the final play of the first half against Robert Morris. In MVFC games, Kennedy is 17-of-19 in field goal attempts.
This week's other MVFC Players of the Week include TE Dallas Goedert of South Dakota State (offense), LB Dylan Cole of Missouri State (defense) and LB Christian Rozeboom of South Dakota State (newcomer).
The Penguins (3-1 overall and 1-0 in the MVFC) are on the road for the second time this season on Saturday when the visit Illinois State (2-3 and 0-2). Kickoff at Hancock Stadium is set for 3 p.m. Eastern time/2 p.m. Central.
