A day full of activities will keep fans busy leading up to the Youngstown State football team's Missouri Valley Football Conference opener against South Dakota on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at Stambaugh Stadium.
The start the jam-packed day is the Hall of Fame Induction ceremony and breakfast which will be in the Chestnut Room of the Kilcawley Center at 9:30 a.m. The 2016 Hall-of-Fame class features Justin Banks (Baseball), Jeanna Cunningham (Track and Field), Jarrod Davis (Track and Field), Dennis and Janet Haines (Contributors), Kalyn Leveto (Diving), Marcus Mason (Football), Jamie Palumbo (Baseball) and Tiffany Patteson (Softball).
Fans will be allowed to start their tailgating festivities at 10 a.m. Beer will be on sale in both lots start at 10 o'clock. Parking in the M-62, M-71, M-72 and decks (M-30 and M-60) will be available at that time for $5.
Fans are reminded that the tailgate lots have a new number designation. The upper, M-70 Lot, was formerly the M-24 Lot while the lower Rulli Bros Tailgate lot, M-63, was formerly the M-7. Also with a chance of rain in the forecast, no umbrellas are allowed in the stadium by patrons.
The YSU swimming and diving team is hosting an Alumni Meet on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at the Beeghly Natatorium as well. More than 30 former Penguins are set to be involved in the meet in some capacity.
In the M-63 Tailgate Lot, the band Guys Without Ties is set to perform in the lot starting at 1 p.m. as well. The Penguin Pack will be hosting their pregame party in the tailgate lot for YSU students as well.
The second attempt at the annual State Farm Kids Day is set for 1 p.m. in the M-63 Tailgate Lot. Bounce-A-Rounds as well as displays by the YSU Police Department, the Youngstown City Police Department and the Youngstown Fire Department will be part of the Kids Day activities.
Members of the YSU baseball program will be selling merchandise near the M-63 Lot and then at the game on the West Stands Concourse. The program will be accepting credit cards for purchases. The women's golf team will be selling YSU "Y" Powerband wristbands and magnets.
All fans attending the game will receive Pete Playing Cards courtesy of Schwebel's, ValleyCare and WFMJ TV-21.
During the game members of the softball team will be selling 50/50 Raffle Tickets.
As always, YSU students are admitted free with a valid student ID with seating on the East Side stands. Tickets on gameday are $20 for reserved seats. The YSU Athletic Ticket Office is open until 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday prior to the contest.
