Youngstown State football fans can catch all the inside scoop on Penguins football during the week via the Penguin Playbook Radio Show and the Penguin Gameday Television Show. During the season, WKBN 570 AM will once again serve as the flagship radio station for YSU football.
Youngstown's NewsRadio 570 WKBN, an iHeartMedia station, will once again serve as the radio home for YSU football game broadcasts. Play-by-play voice Bob Hannon returns for his 28th season calling the action of Youngstown State football in 2016. Hannon, the president and chief professional officer of the Youngstown/Mahoning Valley United Way, has called more than 200 YSU games since 1989.
In his fourth year as an analyst is former Penguins offensive lineman Chris Sammarone. Sammarone, a Youngstown attorney, was a center for the Penguins from 1992-94. Handling sideline duties this season is Drae Smith, who is also the radio play-by-play broadcaster for YSU women's basketball road games. Fans can also listen to all YSU football game broadcasts on the iHeartRadio App.
With the return of Youngstown State football, comes the return of YSU's two weekly Coach's Shows. Penguins' fans can join second-year head coach Bo Pelini at O'Charley's Restaurant in Boardman every Monday during the season for his radio show, "Penguin Playbook". The program, presented by Southwoods Health, will air live on 1390 WNIO "The Sports Animal" from 7-8 p.m. and will be hosted by YSU football play-by-play announcer Bob Hannon. They will discuss each opponent, get additional insight from the assistant coaches and talk to the fans.
On Wednesday nights at 7 p.m. on 21 WFMJ, fans can an inside look at the YSU football team on Coach Pelini's television show, "Penguin Gameday". The half-hour program, hosted by WFMJ sports director Dana Balash, will feature highlights, showcase YSU student-athletes and assistant coaches. "Penguin Gameday" is presented by Bob and Chuck Eddy's Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram and the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport.
Through an agreement with the Missouri Valley Football Conference and ESPN, every YSU football home game and conference road contest will be streamed live on ESPN3. The telecasts will also be available on the WatchESPN app.
Video for non-conference road games will be dependent on the host institution. This season, Jim Campbell will handle the play-by-play with Tim Pozsgai serving as the color analyst for four of the six home games starting with Thursday's telecast of the season opener against Duquesne. The home games against Northern Iowa and Indiana State will be the MVFC "Game of the Week" and will be exclusive to ESPN3.
