YSU Announces Early-Signing Period NLI Additions

Listed below are biography sketches on players who signed National Letters of Intent with the Youngstown State football program. YSU added 11 student-athletes for the 2019 campaign during the three-day early-signing period. The Penguins added six offensive players, four on defense and a long snapper. The class was wide ranging with five states represented. Five of the signees are Ohio natives.

High School: Played quarterback, wide receiver, defensive back and was a play-making punt and kickoff returner...completed 45-of-86 passes for 1,076 yards and 17 touchdowns as a senior...rushed for 927 yards on 97 carries...averaged 9.6 yards per carry...combined for six touchdowns - three passing, three rushing - against Waynesburg Central...led the Tigers to a 9-3 overall record reaching the WPIAL 3A Playoff semifinals...was part of Beaver Falls' state championship team in 2016...coach was Nick Nardone...is also a standout baseball player.

High School: Ohio Division V Offensive Player of the Year as a senior...was a finalist for Ohio's Mr. Football Award...was a first-team All-Ohio selection...named the Division V Northeast Lakes District Offensive Player of the Year...North Coast League White Division Player of the Year...played running back, wide receiver and cornerback...rushed for 2,385 yards on 198 carries and scored 49 touchdowns as a senior...tied for third in Ohio history 49 rushing touchdowns in one season...averaged an impressive 13.1 yards per rush... caught seven passes for 90 yards... punted for a 33.2-yard average and had 41 tackles on defense...winner of the 2018 Tony Fisher Award...helped lead Gilmour to an 11-1 record, an NCL White Division title and into the second round of the Division V playoffs...rushed for 266 yards and scored five touchdowns in playoff win over Crestview...coach was Chris Kosiorek...was an all-state selection in basketball as a junior...also won state titles in track and field in the long jump and the 4x100m relay.

High School: Played defensive end and offensive tackle...was a first-team All-Ohio Division IV selection as a senior...was named the All-American Conference Red Tier Defensive Player of the Year...was a first-team Division IV All-Northeast Inland District honoree...helped lead East to the Class 4 quarterfinals where the Golden Bears dropped a hard-fought 34-30 contest to Girard...had 20 career sacks...was a three-time first-team all-conference selection...as a junior, had 67 total tackles, including 20 TFLs...coach was Bryan Marrow.

High School: Was the team's snapper and played tight at Hudson...will get the chance to work with former teammate Grant Gonya who should be YSU's placekicker for the upcoming season...coach was Jeff Gough.

High School: Played linebacker and wide receiver at Norwin...as a senior, caught 21 passes for 542 yards...had 22 carries for 139 yards...scored 12 touchdowns...had 72 tackles as a senior...as a junior, caught 39 passes for 506 yards and three touchdowns...credited with 49 tackles (29 solos), had 11 TFLs and five sacks...coach was David Brozeski...also competes in track and field.

High School: Played defensive tackle and running back...rushed for more than 1,000 yards as a senior...California earned a share of the Tri-County South Conference championship...played defensive tackle for the first time as a senior...as a junior, was a Class 1A Pennsylvania Football Writers all-state pick as a running back...rushed for 1,608 yards and 28 touchdowns as a junior...Trojans reached the WPIAL semifinals in 2017...coach was Darrin Dillow.

ASA College: Second-team All-NEFC selection as a sophomore...Avengers were 5-3 in 2018...helped block for an offense that averaged 470.8 yards per game and 37.8 points per contest...ranked third in the nation in yards per game and seventh in point per game...offensive unit also averaged 255.3 yards rushing a contest...in 2017, ASA was 9-1 and defeated Mesa Community in the Valley of the Sun Bowl...coach was Chris Calabrese.

High School: Honorable-Mention All-Big North Conference as a senior...played offensive and defensive line...St Joe's finished 8-4 and reached the NJSIAA Non-Public Group 4 playoffs in 2015...reached the title game before falling to Don Bosco in a game that was played at Met Life Stadium...coach was Augie Hoffmann.
