Youngstown -- Ronnye Beamon (Calumet City, Ill.) has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to continue his academic and basketball career at Youngstown State University, YSU Men's Basketball Head Coach Jerry Slocum announced on Tuesday (May 8).
Beamon, 6-foot-4 guard, was a four-year letterwinner at Bishop Noll High School and led his prep squad to a four-year mark of 73-19. He led Bishop Noll to a 26-1 record and a state runner-up finish as a junior and a 20-4 mark as a senior.
"What a great young man and player Ronnye is," Slocum said. "He is a big guard that is athletic, can shoot the ball and defend.
"We are very fortunate and happy for him to be a part of our program."
Beamon felt Youngstown State was a great fit for him and be able to play in the Horizon League was important.
"I feel Youngstown State is a great place for me to continue my basketball career," Beamon said. "Plus, being in the Horizon League was a big factor because of all of the games near my home - the Chicagoland area."
Beamon was a Northwest Times First-Team All-Area player this past season, averaging 14.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.1 steals and 1.6 assists per game.
He finished with more than 900 career points and 400 rebounds, all while earning a 3.41 grade-point average in honors courses.
Beamon joins Kamren Belin (Atlanta, Ga.), Bobby Hain (Jupiter, Fla.) and Ryan Weber (Indianapolis, Ind.) in the 2012-13 recruiting class.
