Youngstown -- The Youngstown State men's basketball team has signed guard/forward Braun Hartfield to a National Letter of Intent during the early signing period to join the program for the 2016-17 season, Head Coach Jerry Slocum announced on Wednesday.
Hartfield, a senior at Garfield Heights High School and a native of Cleveland, Ohio, averaged 14 points per game and was an honorable mention all-conference pick as a junior at Shaker Heights High School.
"Braun is a quality wing that can shoot the basketball and can take you off the dribble,"Slocum said. "He plays for a great high school program and a great high school coach. He plays for a very talented team that has a chance to play for a state title.
"We are very excited to have Braun. He clearly brings athleticism and the ability to shoot the ball to our program."
As a sophomore, Hartfield was named first-team all-conference after averaging 15 points per game.
"I chose Youngstown State because on my visit the coaching staff was great to me and I had a great experience with the players," Hartfield said. "YSU also has a great business school."
Hartfield said he puts the team first.
"Anything they need me to do, I'll do," Hartfield said. "I'm a big guard and can score and defend."
