Game Preview

• The Youngstown State men's basketball team heads back on the road for three games at the Hilton Garden Inn FGCU Classic in Fort Myers, Fla. The Penguins face Florida Gulf Coast at Alico Arena, Saturday, Nov. 21.
• Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. ET and can be heard on 570 AM WKBN and viewed on ESPN3.com and the WatchESPN app.
• The Penguins will also take on Bowling Green, Nov. 22, at 4 p.m. and North Dakota, Nov. 23, at 4 p.m.

 

Success in Exempt

• Since 2013, the Penguins have gone 7-1 in exempt tournaments the last two seasons.
• The Penguins went 3-1 at the Eastern Michigan tournament last season.
• YSU won the Kennesaw State exempt tournament with a 4-0 record in 2013-14.

Toledo Recap

•  The Penguins are coming off a 100-78 loss to Toledo on Nov. 18 at the Beeghly Center.
• Sophomore Cameron Morse led the Penguins with a career-high 23 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the field and made 7-of-8 from the free-throw line.
• Junior Matt Donlan posted a career-high 18 points and made a career-best four 3-pointers.
• Sophomore Francisco Santiago added a career-high 11 points against the Rockets.

 

700 Club

• Youngstown State Head Coach Jerry Slocum has 699 career wins and needs just one more to become the 37th coach in NCAA history to win 700 career games.
• Slocum currently ranks eighth among active NCAA Division I coaches with 699 wins.

 

About FGCU

• Florida Gulf Coast enters the Classic with a 1-1 mark after falling to Ohio 85-75 on Nov. 14 and defeating Texas Wesleyan, 85-62, on Nov. 16.
• Marc-Eddy Norelia leads the Eagles with 18 points and 10 rebounds per game.
• Julian DeBose is second on the team with 15 points per game, Filip Cvjeticanin is averaging 13.5 points per game and Antravious owns a 12.5 scoring average.
• Cvjeticanin has made nine of the Eagles' 12 3-pointers this season.

• The Falcons own a 9-4 advantage in the all-time series, but the Penguins have won the last two meetings.

• This will be the first meeting between Youngstown State and North Dakota.

 

Down Under Wonder

• Junior Matt Donlan is off to a fantastic start with the Penguins.
• He scored a career-high 18 points with a career-best four 3-pointers against Toledo on Nov. 18.
• He also turned in a terrific debut for the Penguins against Kent State on Nov. 14. 
• The 6-foot-7 forward scored 15 points and had three 3-pointers against the Golden Flashes.
• He leads the Penguins with 16.5 points per game and  seven 3-pointers made.

 

Hain to Hit Century Mark

• Senior Bobby Hain will play in his 100th career game against Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday.
• Hain will have a chance to break the YSU career games played record of 128 set by Shawn Amiker from (2010-2015).

 

Morse Code

• Sophomore  Cameron Morse turned in a career-best performance against Toledo on Nov. 18.
• Morse scored a career-high 23 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the floor.
• He also had six rebounds, three assist and two steals against the Rockets.
• Morse provided a much needed defensive spark off the bench against Kent State on Nov. 14.
• Morse collected a career-high five steals and scored eight points, including two clutch 3-pointers late in the second half.

 

Hain Nets 1,000/600

• With seven rebounds against Kent State on Nov. 14, senior Bobby Hain became the sixth Division I player in YSU history to post at least 1,000 career points and 600 career rebounds.
• Hain also had 20 points on 8-of-16 shooting against the Golden Flashes.

 

Francisco, That's Fun to Say

• Sophomore Francisco Santiago posted a career-high 11 points the Penguins' loss to Toledo on Nov. 18.
• He was 4-of-8 from the field and also dished out three assists.
• Santiago was in the giving mood in his collegiate debut at Kent State on Nov. 14.
• Santiago dished out a career-high eight assists to go along with six points and six rebounds against the Golden Flashes.
• After two games, Santiago leads the team with 11 assists or 5.5 assists per game.

 

More on Hain

• Senior Bobby Hain entered the season ranked 30th on the Youngstown State all-time scoring list and moved up three spots after one game.
• Hain scored 20 points - the eighth 20-point effort of his career - against Kent State and now ranks 27th all-time with 1,053 career points.
