More than 130 people attended another Youngstown State men's basketball Tipoff Banquet on Sunday afternoon at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Banquet Center.

Following an outstanding dinner prepared by the Our Lady of Mount Carmel staff, former Cleveland Cavaliers great and current broadcaster Jim Chones gave an eye-opening keynote speech to the audience.

Chones talked about his lifetime experiences from childhood to playing in the ABA, NBA, and for legendary Marquette head coach Al McGuire. He also stressed the importance of selflessness, sacrifice, and being a good teammate not only on the court but in life as well.

YSU Assistant Athletics Director Robb Schmidt, who served as the banquet's emcee, introduced and gave a brief biography of each member of the men's basketball program.

After Schmidt's introduction, YSU Head Coach Jerry Slocum addressed the audience and previewed the upcoming season.

Following Slocum's remarks, a silent and live auction were held with prizes including two VIP tickets to any December Cavs home game and a Cavaliers Experience with the Cavs radio broadcast crew.

The Penguins open the 2015-16 season against Kent State, Saturday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m. in Kent, Ohio.
