Men's Basketball Visits No. 5 Louisville Sunday

Opening Tip
• The Youngstown State men's basketball team hits the road for the first time this season when it visits No. 5 Louisville, Sunday, Nov. 10, at the KFC YUM! Center in Louisville, Ky. This is the first of four games in the Global Sports Shootout.
• Tipoff is slated for 2:04 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on 570 WKBN, FoxSports Ohio, AT&T Sportsnet Pittsburgh and the WatchESPN App.
The Coaches
• Jerrod Calhoun is in his third year at Youngstown State and his eighth season overall as a head coach. The 13th head coach in program history, Calhoun owns a career mark of 145-82 overall and is 21-44 at Youngstown State. The Cleveland, Ohio, native came to YSU after spending five years at Fairmont State, where he led the Fighting Falcons to the 2017 NCAA Division II National Championship game and a 34-3 overall record. Calhoun was named the 2017 Mountain East Conference Coach of the Year and the Mountain East Conference Men's Sports Coach of the Year.
• Chris Mack is in his second year at the helm of the Louisville Cardinals and his 11th year overall. Mack owns a career record of 236-111 and a two-year mark of 21-14 with the Cardinals. Prior to Louisville, Mack spent nine seasons as the head coach at Xavier and compiled a record of 215-97. He's led his teams to nine NCAA tournament appearances, three Sweet 16s and an Elite Eight appearance in 2016-17.
Tipoff Tidbits
• This is the first meeting between Youngstown State and Louisville.
• This is Youngstown State's eighth game against an opponent from the Atlantic Coast Conference.
• YSU is coming off a 101-53 win over Thiel on Nov. 5.
• Six players scored in double figures for the Penguins led by sophomore Darius Quisenberry with 16 points and junior Jamir Thomas and senior Donel Cathcart III with 13 points each.
• YSU returns all five starters and 10 letterwinners from last season.
• The Penguins return 77.9 percent of their scoring, 82 percent of their rebounding, and 83.2 percent of made 3-pointers.
• Youngstown State's eight Horizon League wins tied for the second-most in school history.
• YSU had a six-game league winning streak for the first time in since 1997-98. 
• YSU set the school record for most 3-pointers in a single-season with 303.
• Last year, Darius Quisenberry set YSU freshman records for most 3-pointers made (51), most free throws made (106) and most free throws attempted (133).
• Quisenberry became the first YSU freshman to earn All-Horizon League honors after being named to the all-league second-team.
• Quisenberry's 441 points were the most scored by a freshman since YSU joined the Division I ranks in 1981-82. 
• Junior Naz Bohannon ranked second in the Horizon League with 8.3 rebounds per game.
• Bohannon's career average of 8.2 rebounds per game ranks second in YSU's Division I history and 10th overall.
• Sophomore Jelani Simmons set the YSU freshman record for highest 3-point field-goal percentage at .402 last season.
• Simmons also ranked fifth in the Horizon League with a .402 3-point field-goal percentage.
• Junior Garrett Covington was named to the Horizon League All-Defensive Team.
• Senior Devin Morgan led the team with 60 made 3-pointers.
YSU vs. Ranked Foes
Dating back to 1950, Youngstown State owns an overall record of 1-25 against ranked foes. Since joining the Division I ranks in 1981-82, the Penguins are 0-21 against top 25 opponents. The last ranked team YSU played was Ohio State in 2018. The Penguins lost to the Buckeyes, 75-56. This is also just the sixth time since 1981-82 that the Penguins have played a team ranked in the top 5.
About Louisville
No. 5 Louisville, which was picked to finish third in the Atlantic Coast Conference, opened the 2019-20 season with an impressive win over fellow ACC member Miami, 87-74, on Nov. 5. Jordan Nwora led the Cardinals with 23 points and 12 rebounds while Steven Enoch also had a double-double with 11 points and 12 boards. Ryan McMahon and Dwayne Sutton each scored 16 points while Samuell Williams added 13.

This is the first meeting between Youngstown State and Louisville.
YSU Against the ACC
This is just the eighth time the Penguins have played against a team from the Atlantic Coast Conference, and YSU owns a record of 0-7 against the ACC. The last time the Penguins played a team from the ACC was a 69-53 loss at Pittsburgh in 2018.

YSU Picked Sixth in HL Preseason Poll
Youngstown State was predicted to finish sixth in the Horizon League in a vote by the league's head coaches, athletics communications directors and selected media. Wright State was predicted to win the Horizon League with 28 first-place votes and 350 points. Northern Kentucky received five first-place votes and 295 points and was picked second. UIC was third with 280 points while Oakland was selected fourth with 229 points. Green Bay was picked fifth with 207 points followed by the Penguins with 186 points, Milwaukee at seventh with 146 points, Detroit Mercy was eighth with 133 points, IUPUI had 92 points and Cleveland State was picked 10th with 62 points.
Quisenberry Selected Preseason All-Horizon League Second-Team
Sophomore Darius Quisenberry was also selected to the preseason All-Horizon League Second-Team. A 2018-19 All-Horizon League Second-Team selection, led the team in scoring and assists with 120. Quisenberry averaged 13.8 points, 2.9 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game.

The Penguins head to the Bayou to take on Louisiana-Lafayette, Friday, Nov. 15, at 8 p.m. in Lafayette, La. This will be the first meeting between the two schools.
