Muncie, Ind. -- The Youngstown State men's golf team finished ninth at the 15-team Ball State Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational over the weekend. The Penguins are next in action at the Horizon League Championships in Florida next weekend.
The event counted five of six scores, instead of the normal four of five. In the team race, YSU carded a 1,142 to finish ninth. Winning the event was Louisville with a 1,090. The Cardinals won the tournament by 10 strokes.
The Penguins had rounds of 390, 378 and 374 in the tournament. YSU finished two strokes in front of Butler, 10 ahead of Dayton and Cincinnati and 11 clear of Valparaiso. Cleveland State and Wright State both finished ahead of the Penguins, but the Raiders were just two strokes ahead.
The top individual finisher for YSU was Shayne Wilson who finished 28th with a 226. One stroke behind Wilson was Anthony Conn who finished 35th with a 227. Bryan Yeo finished 46th with a 232, Mark Olbrych was 54th with a 234, Joe Santisi was 59th with a 235 and Trevor Jones was 74th with a 238.
The Horizon League Championships are April 27-29 at the Mission Inn Resort in Howie-In-The-Hills, Fla.
