Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla. - Bryan Yeo was fifth and Brandon Pluchinsky placed seventh to lead the men's golf team to a third-place finish at the Horizon League Championships which concluded on Sunday at the Mission Inn Resort.
The Penguins finished a strong third place after carding a final round 306 for a tournament score of 911. Cleveland State held on to win the team title from Detroit by just three shots. The Vikings won the event with an 892 while the Titans were second with an 895. The Guins had rounds of 305, 300 and 306 for their 911. Valparaiso was fourth with a 915 after also firing a 306 on Sunday.
Yeo and Pluchinsky earned all-tournament honors for their performances.
Yeo had a final round 74 and finished the event with a 224. On Sunday, his round featured birdies at eight and 11 to go along with four bogeys as he finished two-over par for the day. His 224 was just eight-over par for league championships.
Pluchinsky had a 77 on the final day to go with a pair of 74's. He finished with a 225 for the tournament, coming in at nine-over par. On Sunday, Pluchinsky was even par on his final 11 holes, which included birdies at 10 and 15.
D.J. Holub finished with a 231 for the tournament good enough to finish in a tie for 17th. Holub had a final round 77 to go with rounds of 79 and 75. Holub was two over-par through 16 holes on Sunday which included birdies on nine and 10.
Bill Gaffney was 22nd at the league championships with a three-round total of 234. On his final round 78 on Sunday, he had birdies at one, five, 13 and 18. He was one-under par on his last eight holes.
Senior Mark Olbrych finished 25th in his final YSU tournament. Olbrych had a three-round total of 242.
