Kettering, Ohio - Youngstown State men's golfer Brandon Pluchinsky placed second as the Penguins had a strong final round to place eighth at the Dayton Fall Invitational which concluded on Tuesday.
The Penguins fired a two-round 606 with scores of 305 and 301. YSU was in 11th place following the first day of play on Monday before moving up three spots on Tuesday and place eighth. Xavier was the wire-to-wire winner with a two-round score of 587. Second place through eighth were separated by just nine stokes.
Pluchinsky had a two-round total of 142 with rounds of 74 and 68. He was in 15th place after the first day, but his strong second-round play moved him into second place, one shot behind Dayton's George Rohde.
Other finishers for the Penguins included D.J. Holub who was 18th with a 150 (75-75), Justin Hallapy was 53rd with a 156 (79-77), Bill Gaffney (76-81) and Steven Sveda (80-77) were 58th with 157's and Bryan Yeo finished 83rd with a 162 (81-81).
This was the final event of the fall schedule for the Penguins. YSU had a strong fall winning two tournaments and placing second in another.
