State College, Pa. - The Youngstown State men's golf team concluded the regular-season tournament portion of its schedule with a seventh-place finish at the Penn State Rutherford Intercollegiate which ended on Sunday.
YSU will now head to the Horizon League Championships which begin on Friday in Florida.
The Penguins carded a three-round score total of 903 and tied fellow Horizon League member Cleveland State for seventh. Penn State rallied to win the event with an 868 taking first by eight shots over Eastern Michigan. Twelve teams participated in the event.
YSU opened the tournament strong on Saturday morning with the second-lowest first round score of 294. The Guins shot a second round 301 to fall to sixth after Saturday's action. On Sunday, the Penguins ended the event with a 308.
Brandon Pluchinsky led the way with a 12th place finish. Pluchinsky carded a three-round total of 221. He was tied for the lead with a first round 68 before dropping into sixth place with a second-round 75. He had a 78 on Sunday.
Bill Gaffney and Steven Sveda had consistent rounds throughout the tournament. Gaffney finished 25th with a 225 following rounds of 76, 74 and 75. Sveda was 31st with a 227 following scores of 76, 75 and 76.
