White Sulpher Springs, W. Va. - The Youngstown State men's golf team shot third-lowest final round to finish in seventh at the Greenbrier Collegiate Invitational which concluded on Tuesday.
YSU shot a final-round 283 after carding rounds of 292 and 297 during Monday's play. The Penguins finished with a 872 for the 54-hole event. Finishing first was East Tennessee State which shot an 846. Eleven strokes separated second through seventh place at the event.
Leading the way was senior Brandon Pluchinsky who tied for third in strong field. Pluchinsky finished with a three-round score of 210 which left him three strokes off the pace. He had rounds of 70 and 72 on Monday before carding an impressive 68 on Tuesday. He finished at even par for the tournament.
Senior Bill Gaffney finished 30th with a three-round score of 220. Gaffney had an even-par 70 and a 78 on Monday before firing a two-over par round of 72 on Tuesday. Jason McQuown finished with a 222 and tied for 39th following rounds of 74, 72 and 76.
Senior D.J. Holub ended the tournament on an impressive note with a three-under par 67 on Tuesday. Holub had rounds of 79 and 77 on Monday and carded a 223 to finish 47th. Junior Steven Sveda finished 77th with a 230 (78-76-76).
YSU is next in action April 16-17 at the Penn State Rutherford Intercollegiate.
