Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla. - Youngstown State sophomore Jason McQuown shot a three-over-par 75 on Sunday to lead the men's golf team on the first day of competition at the Horizon League Championships.
McQuown is in 14th place after the first day with his opening round 75. His round featured 31 pars, four bogeys and a birdie. McQuown birdied the par-5 14th hole at the Mission Inn Resort. He was just two-over after his first 11 holes.
In the team race, YSU is eighth after an opening round 319. The Penguins are nine shots back of seventh place Green Bay. Cleveland State leads the event with a 294 while Valparaiso is in second place at 247.
Evan Standohar had an impressive performance in his first Horizon League Championships round. Standohar carded a 79 and was in the first grouping of the day and is in 27th place. He had eight pars, seven bogeys, two birdies and a double bogey in his round. He birdied No. 14 and No. 18 during the round.
Senior Thomas Lydic had an opening round 80 and is 29th. Lydic was two-over par on the back nine and his round featured nine pars and a birdie on No. 1.
The second round gets underway on Monday with YSU teeing off at 7:30 a.m.
