Batavia, Ohio - Sophomore Jason McQuown carded a final-round one-under par 70 on Monday to help pace the YSU men's golf team at the NKU Fall Collegiate Classic at the Elks Run Golf Club.
The Penguins finished 10th in the 17-team with a three-round total of 896. On Sunday, YSU opened with a 305 before rebounding to card a 291 in the second round. During Monday's final round, the Guins shot a 300. Dayton won the event with a three-round total of 859.
McQuown had a strong final round on Monday with six birdies, five bogeys and seven pars. He finished tied for 12th with a three-round score of 219. On Sunday he carded a 75 and a 74.
Steven Sveda had a strong final two rounds with a second-round 71 and a final round 72. Sveda opened with a 79 and finished 23rd with a three-round score of 222.
Other finishers for the Penguins included, Thomas Lydic who placed 54th with a 229 (76-76-77), Dom Carano who was 61st with a 231 (74-75-82), Justin Hallapy who finished 69th with a 233 and Evan Standohar who was 88th with a 241. Hallapy's tournament was highlighted by a second round 72.
The Penguins are next in action on Oct. 3-4 at the Cleveland State Invitational at the Barrington Country Club in Aurora, Ohio.
