Moon Township, Pa. - The Youngstown State men's golf team placed two golfers in the top 15 at the RMU Colonial Classic which concluded on Tuesday at the hilly Montour Heights Country Club. Jason McQuown finished ninth while Steven Sveda placed 13th for the Guins.
The Penguins finished seventh in the nine-team tournament with a two-round score of 637. On a windy Monday the Guins shot 320 and finished the event with a 317 on Tuesday.
McQuown had the best finish of his YSU career with the ninth-place finish. He had a first-round 79 before firing a three-over-par 75 on Tuesday. Sveda carded an opening round 80 and finished with a 77 on Tuesday.
Tying for 30th were Justin Hallapy and Thomas Lydic who both carded total's of 163. Hallapy had rounds of 80 and 83 while Lydic shot an 81 and an 82. Finishing 35th for the Penguins was Evan Standohar who totaled a 165 (82-83) and Jacob Harrah was 53rd with a 178.
YSU is back in acton on Friday and Saturday when it competes at Ball State's Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational.
