Youngstown State Head Men's Golf Coach Tony Joy has announced the signing of two local golfers from Boardman High School who will join the YSU program in the fall of 2018.

Brian Terlesky has been one of the most decorated young golfers in the Youngstown area over the last few years. He was a four-time state qualifier at Boardman High School and was named second-team all-state after his junior season. He was a three-time All-Northeast Ohio selection and three-time AAC conference player of the year. He also was named first-team All-AAC on three occasions.

Terlesky earned invitational medalist honors 11 times and was a two-time sectional medalist at Boardman. He owns the school's nine-hole scoring record at 31 and the 18-hole record at 67. He was also a part of the group that set Boardman's nine-hole team scoring record at 139 and the 18-hole team record at 282. Terlesky plans on majoring in business at YSU.

Terlesky's cousin and fellow Boardman product, Jenna Vivo, will also be golfing at Youngstown State. Vivo has signed a national letter of intent to play for Nate Miklos and the YSU women's golf program.

Comments from Head Coach Tony Joy:

"We are very fortunate that Brian Terlesky has decided to stay close to home to continue his golfing and educational future as a member of the YSU men's golf team. For many years, Brian has set the standard for junior championship golf not only locally but at the state and national level as well. Having competed against the best competition along the way, he will bring that experience into our program and encourage the best local players to stay home and help continue the championship pride that all members of our Penguin athletic family strive for."

Bryan Kordupel was a two-time All-AAC selection at Boardman High School. He was also named second-team All-Northeast Ohio his senior season. Kordupel just started playing competitively as a freshman and has helped lead the Spartans to the state tournament the past two seasons.

He averaged 76.8 strokes per round in 2017 and was a two-time state qualifier. The local product hit a hole-in-one on #11 at Canterbury Golf Club (Beachwood, Ohio) and recorded 13 top-10 finishes. His low tournament scores include an even-par 71 at Youngstown Country Club, an even-par 72 at Shady Hollow Country Club (Massillon Ohio), a two-under-par 34 at Knoll Run Golf Course (Lowellville, Ohio) and a one-under-par 34 at Trumbull Country Club (Warren, Ohio).

In addition to his on-course accolades, Kordupel has also been extremely successful in the classroom at Boardman. He currently has a 4.0 GPA and is in line to be named Valedictorian. He plans to major in mechanical engineering at YSU.

Comments from Head Coach Tony Joy:

"Bryan Kordupel is one of those athletes that a coach always looks for because he has so much upside. Only playing competitive golf for a few years, his improvement and willingness to compete really caught my eye. His ball striking ability and his distance off the tee is what is needed to play at the Division I level. I think he will be a great teammate and of course his academics are at the highest level."
