The Youngstown State men's golf program has signed Derek Miller, a native of Garrettsville, Ohio, to complete its 2018 signing class, Head Coach Tony Joy announced today.
Miller was a four-year letterwinner and two-time captain for Coach Tom Bartz at James A. Garfield High School. He posted a 36.8 nine-hole scoring average while being named First-Team All-Portage Trail Conference and First-Team All-District. He was twice honored as the PTC Player of the Year and helped lead the G-Men to a league title as a senior. Miller was salutatorian of his class and was also a member of the baseball team. He is the son of Ryan and Kristine Miller. He has a brother, Marcus, and a sister, Whitney.
Coach Joy on Miller:
"We're really excited to add Derek to our roster this fall. He is a player who can come in and make an immediate impact on our program. He brings with him a very competitive resume and the upside of being a multi-sport athlete. Concentrating on only golf, will make his transition from high school to college athletics that much easier. Derek will be a great teammate and with his excellent academic accomplishments, he will push us all to be better."
