After a break of nearly three weeks, the Youngstown State men's golf team will make the short trip north on I-76 to compete in the Firestone Invitational hosted by Akron at Firestone Country Club's North Course on Monday and Tuesday.
Monday will begin a stretch of three events in 16 days for the Penguins, who last played on September 11 in the final round of the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational. The team set a new 36-hole school record with a mark of 571 at the event in Huntington, W. Va.
The field will include 16 other schools including Akron, Ball State, Cleveland State, Connecticut, Dartmouth, Dayton, Eastern Michigan, Furman, Illinois State, Mount St. Mary's, Ohio, Old Dominion, South Carolina Aiken, Temple, William & Mary and Winthrop.
Head Coach Tony Joy has announced that the YSU lineup will include C.J. Hughes, Kevin Scherr, Ken Keller, Jason McQuown and Bryan Kordupel. All five golfers have competed in each of the team's first three events this fall.
The teams will play 36 holes on Monday with a shotgun start set for 8:30 a.m. Tee times for the final round will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday with a double-tee start on holes number one and 10. The course will play approximately 7,125 yards and par is 72. Live scoring will be available via Golfstat.com and the Golfstat mobile app.
This week's event will be the first of two in Northeast Ohio for YSU this fall. The Penguins will also play the Tom Tontimonia Invitational hosted by Cleveland State Oct. 8-9 at Lakewood Country Club in Westlake, Ohio.
