Former Youngstown State men's golfer Brandon Pluchinsky has joined the Penguins' coaching staff, Head Coach Tony Joy announced on Wednesday. Pluchinsky played for Joy from 2012-13 to 2015-16, and established himself as one of the best golfers in program history.

"We are extremely excited to have Brandon join our coaching staff," Joy said. "His experience, knowledge of the game, and history as a winner will make us all better. As a former conference player of the year, Brandon's leadership will be invaluable in helping the younger players learn how to compete in the Horizon League."

As a senior in 2015-16, Pluchinsky became the first Penguin to be named Horizon League Golfer of the Year. He was YSU's top finisher seven times and earned seven top-10 finishes for the season, including an eighth-place finish at the Horizon League Championships. He finished in the top 11 at all four HL Championships in his career. The South Range High School graduate earned 16 career top-10 finishes and was YSU's top performer on 20 occasions.

Pluchinsky earned First-Team All-Horizon League honors in 2015 and 2016. He was also named to the league's all-tournament team in 2014 and 2015. He holds the program's lowest single-season average (72.4) and lowest career average (74.3) since 2000. He also holds the third-lowest, single-season average during that span with a mark of 73.3 strokes per round in 2014-15.

The North Lima, Ohio, native played in 41 tournaments and 113 rounds during his career with the Penguins. His 113 career rounds played are tied for sixth most in program history while his 33 rounds as a senior tied for the third most in a single season. He finished his career with an impressive nine rounds of under-70, which is tied for the most by any Penguin in the Horizon League era.

He owns the second-lowest, 54-hole individual score in school history with a pair of 208's in the fall of 2015. One of those performances earned him medalist honors at the Cleveland State Invitational in October of 2015. His third-round 65 in that event remains tied for the program's third-lowest, single-round score in the Horizon League era. His third-round 66 at the Horizon League Championships as a freshman in 2013 tied a league record and is still the fourth-lowest, single-round mark by any Penguin since 2000.

Pluchinsky earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from Youngstown State in 2016 and his Master of Accountancy in 2017. He was recently inducted into the South Range High School Athletic Hall of Fame as a member of its 2018 class.
