The Youngstown State men's golf team will compete in five events across five different states between early March and late April during the spring portion of its 2018-19 season. Head Coach Tony Joy announced the team's complete spring schedule on Monday.
The Penguins will begin the spring slate on March 8-9 with the Jackrabbit Invitational hosted by South Dakota State at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev. The team will then travel directly to Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla., for a few days of practice at the site of the Horizon League Championships in April.
YSU will return to competition at Golden Horseshoe Country Club in Williamsburg, Va., for the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate hosted by William & Mary on March 24-26. The month of April will see the team play the Towson Spring Invitational at Prospect Bay Country Club in Grasonville, Md. (April 6-7) and the Southern Intercollegiate hosted by Georgia at Athens Country Club in Athens, Ga. (April 15)
The season will culminate with the Horizon League Championships on April 21-23 at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla. The event will take place on the resort's El Campeon Course. The Penguins played at four of the five golf courses on the schedule during last season's spring campaign with the only new location being Golden Horseshoe Country Club.
Comments from Head Coach Tony Joy: "The big change this spring besides being able to practice a few days at Mission Inn will be the date change on our travel to Georgia's event. Playing in Athens in April as opposed to early March is a big plus because of the weather and because we will be playing on similar grass at the Horizon League Championships the following week. Playing against the level of competition that will be at Georgia's event should also help to have the team ready for the league championship."
