Dayton, Ohio - The Youngstown State men's tennis team won four singles matches to claim a 4-3 win over Dayton on Friday night at the Four Seasons Sports Club.
After losing the doubles point, the Penguins won at No. 1, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 singles to claim the dual match. Four of the six singles matches went three sets, with each team winning two. YSU won the two singles contests decided in straight sets.
At No. 1, Mitch Maroscher won 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 and at No. 3 Thomas Rodrigues won 6-3, 5-7, 7-6. Winning in straight sets were Joao Garreto by scores of 6-3, 7-6 at No. 4 and Danylo Veremeichuk at No. 5 by scores of 6-3, 7-6. It was the YSU debut for Veremichuk.
Matthew Kritzinger and Garreto won 6-4 at No. 2 doubles, but the Flyers (5-6) won at No. 1 and No. 3 to earn the point.
The win was the eighth for the Penguins who have already exceeded last year's dual victory total.
The Penguins are back in action on Saturday when they take on Xavier (Ohio).
