Penguins Conclude Trip With 6-1 Win Over UC Riverside

Las Vegas, Nevada - The Youngstown State men's tennis team picked up a 6-1 win over UC Riverside on Sunday morning at UNLV's Fertitta Tennis Complex.

The Penguins improve to 5-3 with the victory while the Highlanders fall to 1-7.

YSU earned the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. Winning at No. 1 was Mitch Maroscher and Thomas Rodrigues by a 6-2 score. At No. 3, Luke Purser and Pol Virgili Blanco earned a 6-3 win at No. 3.

In singles play the Penguins won five of the six matches.

At No. 1, Maroscher won 6-1, 6-2 over Cooper Bridge. At No. 3, Rodrigues defeated Tadeas Lansky by a 6-1, 6-0 score and at No. 5, Joao Garreto won 6-1, 6-4 over Gilbert Chung. Stepping in at No. 5 to pick up a win was Blanco came back to beat Nabil Abdallah 3-6, 7-5, 10-5. Making his dual debut at No. 6 was Alonso Lauz who won 4-6, 6-3, 10-6 over Anderson Ju.

The Penguins are next in action on Feb. 17 when they play host to Toledo and St. Bonaventure at the Boardman Tennis Center.
