Penguins Pick Up First Horizon League Win Beating UIC

Boardman - The Youngstown State men's tennis team picked up their first Horizon League win of the season with a 5-2 victory over UIC on Sunday morning at the Boardman Tennis Center.

The victory improved YSU to 13-6 overall and 1-1 in the Horizon League. It's the second most dual wins for the program in school history and the most since 2012-13.

YSU seized momentum early winning the first two completed doubles matches to earn the point.

At No. 1, Thomas Rodrigues and Mitch Maroscher picked up a 6-2 win while at No. 3, Luke Purser and Matthew Kritzinger claimed a 6-4 win.

In singles play, YSU won four of the six matches. Rodrigues won at No. 4 by a 6-1, 6-2 score while Gabriel Tolesani picked up a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 6. 

At the top of the lineup, Maroscher won 6-4, 7-5 at No. 1 while Danylo Veremeichuk earned a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 3.

The Penguins return to action on Saturday when they visit Wright State.
