Cincinnati, Ohio - The Youngstown State men's tennis team beat Xavier (Ohio) 5-2 on Saturday at the Five Seasons Sports Club.
The victory is the fourth straight and the ninth of the year for the Penguins, the most in a season for the program since 2012-13. Xavier falls to 2-8 on the campaign.
The Penguins were strong in singles play winning five of the six matches after dropping the doubles point.
At No. 1, Mitch Maroscher came back to win 6-7, 6-3, 6-4. At No. 3, Thomas Rodrigues cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win. At No. 4, Joao Garreto picked up a 6-4, 6-4 victory. Danylo Veremeychuk won for the second staight day posting a 7-5, 6-1 win at No. 5. At No. 6, Gabriel Tolesani came back to earn a 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 victory.
