Gran Picks Up Win As Penguins Drop Match at DePaul

Chicago, Ill. - Youngstown State's Erik Gran picked up a win at No. 6 singles, but the Penguins dropped a 6-1 decision to DePaul on Friday night at the Lakeshore Sport and Fitness Club.

Gran earned a 2-6, 6-3, 11-9 win over DePaul's Trip Tuff. At No. 1 singles, Danylo Veremeichuk dropped a 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 decision to Vito Tonejc.

The Guins nearly won the doubles with a win at No. 1, but the Blue Demons (5-2) won in a tiebreaker at No. 2 and had a win at No. 3 to earn the point.

At No. 1, Joao Garretto and Veremeichuk won 6-4 over Fran and Vito Tonejc. In a close match at No. 2, Luke Purser and Vasilis Vardakis lost 7-6 to Christopher Casati and Boris Spanjaard. 

YSU (2-2) returns to action on Saturday when it takes on Valparaiso. First serve at the in Match Point Tennis Center in Griffith, Ind., is set for 3 p.m. Eastern Time.
