Penguins Make Trips to DePaul, Valparaiso

The Youngstown State men's tennis team returns to action on Friday when it takes on DePaul and then visits former Horizon League foe Valapariso on Saturday.

The Penguins (2-1) take on the Blue Demons (4-2) on Friday in Chicago at the Lakeshore Sport and Fitness Club at 7:15 p.m. On Saturday, the Penguins take on the Crusaders (2-1) in Griffith, Ind., at the Match Point Tennis Center at 3 p.m.

YSU dropped its first contest of the season last Friday when it dropped a 6-1 decision at Butler.

Three Penguins enter the two-match stretch with 2-1 records. Danylo Veremeichuk, Joao Garretto and Luke Purser have all won twice. Garretto was the lone Penguin to win at Butler.

Leading the way in doubles are Purser and Pol Virgili Blanco. The duo has won a team-high two matches so far this spring at the No. 3 spot.

Series Notes

  • The Penguins dropped a 4-3 decision to the Blue Demons last January at the Boardman Tennis Center in the only previous meeting between the two schools.
  • YSU has lost the last four matches with Valparaiso, including a tough 4-3 loss in the Horizon League semifinals in 2017. The Guins last beat the Crusaders 7-0 in April 2012.
