Orlando, Fla. - The Youngstown State men's tennis team used strong singles play to beat Fairleigh Dickinson, 6-1, on Wednesday afternoon at Sanlando Park in Orlando.
The Penguins (7-5) have won four of their last five matches overall and went 3-1 on their trip to Florida.
After FDU (3-7) won the doubles point, the Penguins came back to win all six singles matches, five of which came in straight sets.
Danylo Veremiechuk picked up a win in three sets over Mehdi Dhouib at No. 1. Vermeichuk won the first set 6-4 before dropping the second 6-3. In the third set, Veremeichuk won 6-4.
At No. 2 singles, Vasilis Vardakis won 6-1, 7-6 (5) over Andris Gudins. At No. 3, Joao Garretto won 6-2, 6-2 over Maciej Antuch. Luke Purser cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4 over Moric Budinszky. At No. 5, Yossi Dahan won 6-2, 6-4 over Iavn Solans Diaz and at No. 6, Erik Gran earned a 7-6 (2), 6-3 win against Eduardo Cabral.
YSU returns to action on Saturday, March 23 when it opens Horizon League play at Green Bay.
