The Youngstown State men's tennis team opens Horizon League play on Saturday with a contest against Green Bay and faces Marquette to close out the weekend on Sunday.
The Penguins (7-5) take on the Phoenix (4-9) at 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time at the Western Racquet and Fitness Club. Sunday's non-league contest against the Golden Eagles (7-6) is set for 2 p.m. Eastern Time in Milwaukee, Wis., at the Helfaer Tennis and Recreation Center.
YSU is coming off a strong spring break trip that saw it win three matches in four days. The Penguins picked up wins over Northern Illinois, Creighton and Fairleigh Dickinson in Orlando. Overall the Guins have won four of the past five games.
Senior Yossi Dahan was named the Horizon League's singles player of the week after posting a 3-0 record. The Penguins also had the Doubles Players of the Week with Luke Purser and Vasilis Vardakis earning the league award.
- YSU has won the last two contests against Green Bay by 4-3 margins. Prior to the two victories, the Penguins were winless in the previous 18 meetings against the Phoenix.
- The Penguins are 1-1 all-time against Marquette. YSU earned a 4-3 victory over the Golden Eagles on April 23, 2017 and dropped a 6-1 decision on April 11, 2015.
