Indianapolis, Ind. - The Youngstown State men's tennis team swept the Horizon League's weekly awards as Yossi Dahan was named the singles player of the week while Luke Purser and Vasilis Vardakis were tabbed the doubles players of the week, the league announced on Tuesday.
The three players helped the Penguins post a 3-1 record last week with wins over Samford, Northern Illinois and Creighton.
Dahan won three matches last week for the Penguins. Playing at No. 5, Dahan rallied for a 3-6, 7-6, 10-4 win against Northern Illinois. He would then pick up wins against Creighton and Farleigh Dickinson to cap off the weekend. Dahan has now won five straight matches for the Penguins heading into the start of League play.
The duo of Purser and Vardakis went 3-1 in doubles play for YSU. After dropping a decision to Northern Illinois, the Penguins won three straight. Against Samford, the pair won 7-6 at No. 2 to give Youngstown State the doubles the point. Against Creighton, the pair won 6-4 at No. 2. They earned a 6-2 win against Fairleigh Dickinson. They were the lone Youngstown State doubles teams to beat FDU and Creighton.
The Penguins open Horizon League play on Saturday at Green Bay.
