Penguins Tennis Programs Picked Second in HL Preseason Poll

The Youngstown State men's and women's tennis teams were both picked to finish second in the Horizon League in 2019 according to a preseason poll by the conference's coaches.

On the women's side, YSU trailed UIC in the preseason voting. The Flames garnered 97 total votes and seven first-place votes while the Penguins had 85 points and three first-place votes. Oakland was third and Cleveland State was fourth. YSU has won five straight postseason championships and tied with UIC for the regular-season crown in 2018.

The men were slotted second, just 10 points behind Cleveland State. The defending-champion Vikings received all seven first-place votes and had 49 points while YSU had 39. Green Bay was third with 35 and UIC fourth with 28.

The women's team opens the 2019 dual season on Jan. 25 at Pittsburgh while the men are in action vs. St. Bonvaenture on Jan. 25 as well. Horizon League play for both teams gets underway in late March.
