Milwaukee, Wis. - The Youngstown State men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Marquette on Sunday afternoon at the Halfaer Tennis Stadium.
The Penguins (8-6) took three of the six singles matches to three sets.
At No. 1, Danylo Veremeichuk lost his match in three sets to Alvaro Verdu. Verdu won the first set 6-0 before Veremeichuk won the second 6-3. In the third, Verdu won 6-3 to claim the victory. At No. 4, Luke Purser lost his first set to Greg Anderson, 6-3, before winning the second 6-4. Anderson won the match with a 6-2 victory in the third set. At No. 2, Vaslis Vardakis had a back-and-forth battle with Luis Heredia Gomez. Heredia Gomez won the first set 7-6 before Vardakis won the second set, 7-6. Heredia Gomez won the super tiebreaker in the third set for the win.
The Golden Eagles (9-6) won all three doubles matches with a 6-2 win at No. 1 a 6-4 victory at No. 2 and a 6-2 win at No. 3.
At No. 3, Joao Garretto dropped a 6-4, 6-0 decision to Brett Myers. At No. 5, Yossi Dahan dropped a hard fought contest, 6-3 and 7-5 to Fran San Andres. At No. 6, Erik Gran suffered a 6-2, 6-0 defeat to Brandon Shanklin.
YSU returns to Horizon League play on Saturday when it plays host to Cleveland State in Streetsboro.
